Fr. Shaffer grew up in the Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Bethesda, the youngest of three kids. He first discovered his vocation while attending the University of Maryland through the sacrament of the Eucharist in Mass and Adoration. His favorite thing about being a priest is hearing confessions.
Fr. Greg Shaffer is grateful to Almighty God to be the pastor of Assumption Church in Southeast Washington DC. He grew up in Bethesda, where he attended Our Lady of Lourdes parish and school. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1989 & the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Communication) in 1994. He spent a total of 6 years at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary (Md.) and worked as a sales manager during his 2 leaves of absence from the seminary. In 2006, he was among 12 men who were ordained priests for the Archdiocese of Washington by Cardinal McCarrick at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Fr. Greg rejoices in the good, faithful, & joyful parishioners of Assumption, and is excited to lead these beautiful people in their walk with Christ.
Most recently, Fr. Shaffer comes to us from St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, MD. Prior to that the spent over five years as the Campus Minister at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He is committed to growing the kingdom and welcomes all with open arms into the loving care of Christ.
