TASTE WEB TUTORIAL -- Part 1 of 3
- Welcome to Navigating the TASTE Website Tutorial.
- This is part 1 of a 3-part series.
- This segment addresses the most used menu item called schedule and speakers
- It relates to our first Mission — authentic Church teaching offered by priest and lay persons on fire for their faith.
- Our weekly email always provided a link to this PAGE for anyone who missed the talk or simply wanted to listen to it again. Most women would simply press the PLAY button for the audio to listen.
- As we considered how this page was used, we realized a 3 draw backs.
- Although we provided talks during the Coronavirus pandemic, the format of this page might suggest the audio files were missing. Though they were there, the user would need to know to click on the talk title.
- Second, we came to realize that we were including other content there which could be of benefit to the women, but it could be going unnoticed.
- Finally, because the audio files were displayed, this page took longer to load,
- As you click on “TALKS,” you will see how we revised this page.
- It should display more quickly, has all of the same content, and has a stream-lined look — allowing more talks per page.
- We will now walk though some navigation.
- From this page, a user can click on any talk and get all of the content associated with it.
- If we click on Jessica’s TALK, we see the following screen.
- As before, the user can click on the audio file.
- Additionally, if you missed the talk and did not get the handout, you can click here to get it.
- This second area includes any handout provided by the speaker or from the TASTE Program. In this case, it provides a handout that Jessica provided the day of her talk.
- This last area provides links that we thought would be useful. During this talk, Jessica highlighted her book Home in the Church, so we added a link to buy it in case anyone was not able to get it after the talk.
- The amount of content in this section may may have few or many
- We typically put some visual now in this large area of the page. In this case, it shows the book that she wrote and one of the quotes that she referenced. Don’t forget to scroll down because sometimes there are multiple visuals as in this case, Jessica highlighted the additional strengthening and commissioning during confirmation.
- If we go back to Talks, we notice a few more things.
- SPEAKER — First, if we want to view information on the speaker of a particular talk, we can simple click on their name. If we simple click on Fr. Anthony, we see the following. For each of our speakers, we include their portrait, bio, position/location, a listing of the Talks they have giving to TASTE, and Web links associated with them.
- CANCELLATION SPEAKER — If there is not a name associated with the talk, it is typically because we did not have a session that day, but rather leverage another resource. This is the case for the sessions we have been having recently during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
- SEARCH — Second, we can use this search to look up by topic, speaker, or date.
-
- For example, we can enter the word “Saint” to see all talks on that subject
- Alternatively, we can put in “Swink,” to see all of the talks that Fr. Swink gave.
- Finally, we can put in “2014” if we want to see all of the talks from that calendar year.
-
- SORT — Finally, we can sort by Date, Title, or Speaker. We can sort either ascending or descending.
- So while this page shows us all past talks, what if we want to see upcoming talks?
- We can go to “This Month”. It is here that we highlight talks that are upcoming in the month.
- This page will typically just have the upcoming month.
- Since we are at the end of the semester, there is little to see looking forward now.
- Additionally, we have highlighted here the talks that were scheduled as well as those that we provided due to suspension of TASTE because of the pandemic.
- Just like all of the other pages, this page is filled with hyperlinks to get you to the desired pages — whether they be about the upcoming speaker or retrospectively, for their talk.
- Talking about SPEAKERS, we can view our speakers in one of three views.
- If you would like to see only portraits of this year’s speakers, you can click on this BUTTON.
- You will notice that we first list our priests, followed by our other speakers.
- If we click on any PORTRAIT, we see additional information about that speaker.
- Once again, from here, you can go to his TASTE talks or to any link associated with this speaker.
- Finally, I just want hit a few more links.
- OVERVIEW — If you want to share with someone a bird’s eye view of our schedule, you can point them to this page.
- It highlights our yearly schedule with start and end dates and our breaks.
- It also shows our weekly schedule starting with the mass, opening prayer, small group discussion, and lecture.
- Finally it shows our monthly schedule with the weekly rotation of Scriptural Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Brown Bag Lunch and Bring a Friend Day. Note that there are links to the first 3 weeks.
- THIS WEEK — While Joy sends out our email weekly, it is also logged HERE for quick access. Additionally, what many people don’t know is that we ARCHIVE past versions of the weekly email. These are shown with the most recent period first.
- THIS YEAR — This PAGE shows some information about the entire year. It is particularly interesting in the late summer when we have nailed down the Annual Poster, Theme/Bible Verse, and Topics for the year.
